C45 is standardized according to EN 10028-1, a European standard, while CK45 is standardized according to DIN 1026, a German standard. This means different naming and labeling in different countries.
C45 is a carbon-treated steel and belongs to the group of non-alloy steels. It is also known as a fabrication steel due to its high carbon content. High carbon materials and alloys are recommended for the production of parts to be heat treated. The high carbon content increases the hardenability of the steel.
C45 material is a medium tensile steel supplied in the hot rolled or annealed condition. AISI C45 steel has good machinability, good weldability and high impact strength properties and is suitable for surface hardening.
